D's Inner City Food Review Part II:

Prawn Mee & Fried Carrot Cake
@ the corner of Far East Square
is good stuff...
the good thing is that there are plenty of seats
so you probably wont have to wait long
during those crowded lunch hours

especially like the dark sweet sauce
used to fry the carrot cake
the prawns are juicy and the broth is thick
dare i suggest that it rivals Beach Road Prawn Mee
the mee is a little on the oily side tho
with a generous sprinkling of fried pork lard

Price: Prawn mee - $4,5; Carrot cake - $2,3
Taste test: 4/5 stars
Return to eat: yes

D's Inner City Food Review Part I:

if you're thinking about trying WHAM! burger
in the basement of China Square
you'd better be prepared to wait
and wait
and wait
for your burger
or better yet, bring reading material
we're talking 15-20 mins of waiting in line here
thankfully it wasnt me who queued

the patty is flaky but tender
the bun(s), well, not much to say, decent
the fries have erm girth, not the skinny macs kind
Price - $4.50

3 stars out of 5
return to eat rating - not any time soon

The Third Tuesday:
Conversations with the Doctor

the futility of facades. deep down he feels like a fraud.
the polished veneer of his persona masking the emptiness of his existence
doctor S, for all his wordly experience and years of living, fails to discern the true character of this rogue
you are a young man with a heart he says
secretly, he wishes this was the son he never had
but he doesn't yet know the extent of his deception
one that might compel him to retch in disgust
a true wolf in sheep's clothing
he will never live up to your expectations, doctor S.
but, hopefully not for want of trying
the audacity of hope, might even be too much to ask for

today's trip to the sub-courts was quite an eye-opener
a tale of contested applications and corridors filled with legal banter
bar room conversation included many anecdotes from boutique-firm lawyers on running the firm as a business
at big firms we are so insulated
we have the luxury of concentrating on research and transactions while someone somewhere worries about the payroll and the bills
a different perspective but a valuable one nonetheless

by the way, the mee sua at circular road is quite decent
back to work now....
