A Luscious Bloom - South Africa 2005

Mention "Africa" and most conjure the image of a barren land and rail-thin kids with swollen bellys. It does not help that this sub-conscious image of Africa being a land of strife, poverty and disease has been so widely popularised by the media. Watch Micheal Jackson's music video of Man in the Mirror and you will realise that this image was concretized decades ago. It does not help that the fractious tribes in Africa hardly get along. The white man hopes to solve this problem with money - hardly surprising but ultimately, in my opinion, useless. Changing our view of Africa will take the concerted efforts of a generation or two of imagery and I hardly fancy the chances of that happening.
